Summer in Valle Aurina: Trekking, hiking, MTB…

A small family paradise on the Sun trail. According to its own description, it is located in the “forest enchanted with animals, water and games” and is definitely a place for people who want to enjoy themselves. The starting point is the Platterhof above St. Johann. The ascent over the Frankbach waterfall is particularly exciting for families with children, which continues over the “Hexensteig” and is dotted with numerous sights for children.

The enchanting Durra Alm lies in the upper Reintal (a side valley of the Taufers Valle Aurina), which is particularly well known for the typical, delicious specialities that it offers its visitors. Then the route continues to the Knuttenalm with its picturesque alpine village. An easy hike of about one and a half hours each way, which definitely pays off in terms of scenery.

From the Neves reservoir in the furthest Mühlwald valley, the path leads up a high alpine valley overgrown with countless alpine roses. The path later turns into easy-to-walk on, well-marked blocks. You will be rewarded with a break at this beautiful, newly built hut and a stunning view of the mountains of the Mühlwald and Pfunders valleys.

From the picturesque village of Weissenbach in a side valley of the Valle Aurina, the tarmac road leads up to the Bruneggerhof (there may be additional parking here). This is followed by a gentle ascent over a wide forest path that meanders up the mountain to the cosy Schönbergalm. If you want, you can continue from here to the striking Schönberg. Attention: there are some exposed and rope-secured places here.

Enchanting hike around the village of Lutago and the Schwarzbach Gorge with the impressive Schwarzbach waterfall, which you can start right here at Fronza. First the route goes through the woods in the direction of Brunnberg. The descent is initially gentle, then steeper and leads over the roaring waterfall through the Schwarzbachklamm to the lower waterfall. Due to the shady location, it is a great tip for hot summer days.

6,0 h | 11,9 km | 1.075 m altitude | St. Peter | Intermediate | Route no. 18 & 2

The start is directly in St. Peter or more conveniently at the parking spaces behind the last farms. Initially wider, then steeper and narrower forest path. From the tree line the route goes over steep alpine meadows to the Lutterkopf with its simple summit cross. From here a narrow path leads to the Blauspitze. It is necessary to manage some exposed places secured with ropes. The route goes back through the Poinland valley with its flower-covered meadows.

5.5 h | 16 km | 650 m altitude | Speikboden Sonnklar mountain station | Intermediate, but long

A wonderful hike from the mountain station of the Sonnklar chairlift to the Chemnitzer Hütte via the famous Kellerbauer Weg. The route is more or less on the same level. At the end, the Chemnitzer Hütte awaits you at 2,420 m, where you can eat really delicious dishes. Then the route goes past the picturesque hamlet of Göge down to Weissenbach.

6.5 h | 19.8 km | 269 m altitude | Medium | Route no. 23 & 12

The route “Sunnsat” (“sunny side”) connects Lutago in the front Valle Aurina with St. Peter in the back. The best thing about this scenic trail at an altitude of between 1,000 and 1,300 metres is that it can be walked in stages. It is possible to get on or off it practically anywhere in the Valle Aurina.

A new, excellently designed but very difficult (up to difficulty level “E”) via ferrata named after the famous Alpine climber and located in his home village of Ahornach. You will need nerves of steel and, above all, abundant energy in your arms and legs. Suitable for experts only.
