Winterfun in Ahr valley

Winter in Valle Aurina: Skiing at Speikboden & Klausberg

Amazing fun on the slopes

Spicy clear mountain air, an unspoilt natural landscape in the Valle Aurina, the ski area Speikboden and lots of snow. In the northernmost valley of South Tyrol, winter sports fans and those seeking peace and quiet get their money's worth.

Off to the slopes

Here we go with the skiing holiday. Apart from Lutago itself and within a radius of only 10 kilometres there are two Valle Aurina ski resorts. Perfectly groomed slopes meet fresh powder snow, rapid descents and cosy huts. The ski area Speikboden with its famous downhill runs is only 3 kilometres away. The family-friendly ski area Klausberg is within ten minutes car. Kronplatz, 25 km away, can also be easily reached by car or ski bus.

A magical winter in Valle Aurina
Winter Wonder Land

The winter season in Valle Aurina has endless highlights to offer.
Have fun browsing through the Fronza insider tips!

Via the Daimerweg to the Trejer Alm
Daimerweg

7.5 km | 3 h | approx. 1,500 m altitude | intermediate

The Speikboden can not only be discovered on the ski slopes or while hiking in summer. The area around the Trejer Alm (Outside Michlreis Alm) is very popular with ski tourers. It starts at the Speikboden valley station, then through the forest up to the Trejer Alm. If you want, you can climb even further to the Sonnklarhütte, which is also serviced, at 2,400 metres. Then it’s back with the cable car or on the slopes of the ski resort.

Zirbenweg on the Speikboden
Zirbenweg

2 h | easy snowshoe hike | extended by ascent from the valley station

From the valley station of the Speikboden ski area, you can take the cable car up to the mountain station. From there, the newly created Zirbenweg leads over a beautiful circular tour that will enchant you with its view of the South Tyrolean mountains. A true little paradise for snowshoe hikers looking for panoramic enjoyment.

Ski tour to the Mühlwalder Jöchl
Skitour Mühlwalder Jöchl

Leisurely ski tour | approx. 1,000 m altitude  | 2.5 – 3 h | 5.3 km

The starting point is the toboggan run car park in Weissenbach, 1.5 km behind the village. First through a field, then for 20 minutes over the toboggan run. At a fork, turn left in the direction of “Mittelberger Alm” and “Speikboden”. Then along the course of a mountain stream moderately steeply upwards. From the Mittelberger Alm, it continues via hairpin bends to the Mühlbacher Jöchl with its stunning panorama. The way back is on the ascent route, whereby the tour is also suitable for not so experienced skiers. The tour can be extended by continuing over the western ridge of the Seewassernock to the Speikboden.

Holzer Böden to the “Risa Schipfl”
Holzer Böden

8.5 km | 5.5 h | 970 m altitude  | intermediate snowshoe hike

From Mühlegg near Steinhaus in Valle Aurina, the path leads past the Bizathütte to the Holzer Böden. The hut there is only serviced in summer. Now you walk another half hour to the “Risa Schipfl”, a small log cabin at the end of the Holzer Böden. This is the end of the line, as the surrounding slopes are very steep and at times quite prone to avalanches. On the way back, a stop at the Bizathütte is worthwhile.

Henne & Gorner Joch
Henne & Gorner Joch

5.6 km | 1,100 m altitude  | 4 h | easy ski tour

This easy ski tour also starts in the rearmost Weissenbach valley, at the foot of the Speikboden. The toboggan run in the so-called Wurmtal takes you past the Innerhofer Alm, the Marxegger and the Pircher Alm across open alpine pastures into the valley to the Gorner Joch (2,277 m altitude) and up a gentle ridge to the Gornerberg (Henne). The way back is via the ascent route.

Ski tour on the Zinsnock
Skitour Zinsnock

3 h | 1,085 m altitude | ski technique intermediate  | 4.8 km

The starting point of this sometimes avalanche-prone tour is the car park at the beginning of the toboggan run in Wurmtal. Follow the toboggan run for about 200 m before turning right over a forest step to the entrance to Wurmtal. At the first large clearing, the route goes quite flat on a forest path into the valley. Before a bridge, keep to the right and follow the trail across alpine meadows to the Marxegger Alm, on to the Pircheralm and up to the north-east ridge. At the level of the tree line, the ridge flattens out a bit. Later it gets a little steeper again until the Zinsnock is reached at 2,434 m altitude.

On the Golatsch from Prettau
Golatsch

2.5 h | 800 m altitude | 3.5 km | ski tour in Prettau

The starting point is the car park near the sports field in Prettau. Right at the beginning you change the side of the valley, then it goes up next to the road to the hamlet of Innerpichler. From there continue along the footpath, which crosses the forest path a few times, to the Stegeralm. From there over a clearly recognisable forest cutting to the Wasserboden Alm with its small huts and over a lightly wooded ridge to the unremarkable summit of the Golatsch at 2,245 m. A really worthwhile tour in the extreme north of South Tyrol.

The path is never boring
Ski tour Faden

5 h | 1,000 m altitude  | intermediate – difficult

The starting point of this wonderful tour is St. Peter in Valle Aurina. From there the route goes first over gentle meadows, then steeply up through the forest. After a first rest at a hut, the route continues steeply and directly up the southern slope. The path rewards you, like many peaks of the Valle Aurina, with a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. The descent is via the north side over alpine meadows back to the Samhütten. From there, the descent is easy on the forest path, or adventurous through the steep, snow-covered forest.

Skiworld Valle Aurina: Speikboden
Speikboden

Here in Valle Aurina, skiing is always a feast for the eyes. You glide over perfectly maintained pistes while the dream panorama of our eighty 3,000m peaks unfolds before your eyes. Only 2.5 km down the valley from Lutago, the sun-bathed Speikboden with its 40 km of slopes awaits you. Numerous ski huts and après-ski bars relieve both holidaymakers and sports fans, but also party animals from hunger and thirst. By the way, during some weeks, for example at the beginning of the ski season, the ski pass is free for our guests. If that’s not a good enough reason for a skiing holiday in Valle Aurina …

Snow fun

The nature around Lutago has much more to offer in winter beyond the ski areas.
